Short answer: yes, but only if you really need to. And only if you do it right.

Let’s be clear – the best way to prep your Tactical Foodpack outdoor food is simple: hot water. Boil water, pour in, stir, close, wait, eat. That’s how it’s designed.

But the world isn’t always that kind. Sometimes you’re in the middle of a situation with no stove, no pot, no firewood – just cold and hunger. That’s when you can heat your freeze-dried food over a flame. Carefully.

First, a warning

Don’t throw your foodpack into a fire. Don’t fill it with cold water, seal it, and drop it in the flames. The pressure can make it burst. Our packs are tough, but they’re not made for full-on fire. You need control.

When to use this method

✅ Natural disasters
✅ Crisis zones
✅ War or survival situations
✅ No access to hot water

This is survival stuff. If you can boil water – do that. Heating the pack directly is only for extreme conditions. But even then, it works. And you still get a hot emergency food supply that keeps you going.

What you need

Tactical Fire Pot (our fire gel), or
✅ Small candle, or
✅ Tiny controlled flame (NOT a gas stove)

Avoid high-pressure burners like Primus or MSR. Too hot, too risky. They’re not made for heating our foodpacks directly.

How to do it

1. Add cold water to your freeze-dried food. Stir well.
2. Close the pouch loosely – leave a small gap for air.
3. Build a stand from stones or sticks so your foodpack sits a few centimetres above the flame. Flame should stay under, not around the sides.
4. Place the Fire Pot or candle below and light it.
5. Let it warm slowly. Stir now and then.
6. Once hot enough, take it off the heat. Zip it shut and let it sit for 5–10 min.
7. Eat and enjoy directly from the pouch.

One more thing

This method will never beat hot water. If you want the best taste and texture from your outdoor food, use proper prep. But if you’re stuck, hungry and freezing – Tactical Foodpack will still deliver. That’s why we call it emergency food supply that actually works.

Stay smart. Stay fed. Stay moving.
